Well, if you have been following my blog, you will know that I signed my kids out of school last week and decided I would homeschool them again. Well, originally, I had planned on starting tomorrow. Then the school district decided my kids couldn't go back to school, so I was to start last Tuesday. Then I decided I would de-school them until after spring break, which I thought lasted until through today. Unbeknownst to me (until yesterday), spring break ended today, with the kids going back to school. So today was our first day homeschooling again. I don't want to get too far behind the school system because if/when I do, I won't make enough days before the end of school. I am 3 days behind currently, which will easily be made up at the end of the year.
Today has gone pretty well. I woke up early, however not early enough. I overslept by about 20 minutes. I know it sounds trivial, but I am working from home as well, so that 20 minutes could be the difference between finishing a file or not.
Then, the kids got up early! Ack! And they were hungry :) So I fed them. I worked a little more, but they were actually eager to start. So I ate while I taught bible. Then on to the other lessons. We hit a few snags, like the 4 year old not being interested in the group lessons. I had to find him something to do that didn't distract the other two. The other snag was my daughter thinking her sloppy handwriting from school could continue at home. I know her to be fully capable of writing neatly. I didn't make her re-do everything, but I did make her re-do some of it neatly.
Then we had lunch. Two more lessons after lunch and we were done. They were amazed. They forgot how quickly school goes when you homeschool. After that, we hopped on over to the store, I was out of veggies and milk, and eggs!!! Ack. The kids asked if we could hit the dollar store for them to spend a dollar each they got from Easter, and so we did that as well.
After that, they played outside while I finished up some work I had to do. Then laundry and the other essentials like cleaning the kitchen and starting dinner. Boy, the day goes fast! When they were in school, it was a rush for the bus, then the long work hours while I waited for them to come home. Then the rush for dinner, bath and bed. Now, it seems we pack so much into a day, and it still goes by so fast. At least now, I am getting to spend it with them rather than waiting for them. And yes, the day is longer, but with God's help, I can do this.
Anyway, now we are relaxing before bed. I think I will go read them a story :) After that, more work - I already got my file in for tomorrow and it has a short deadline.
God's blessings on your tomorrow!

I almost envy you... almost. Working from home is challenging enough with my four year olds. I miss homeschooling so much, but knowing that we are going back to it next fall seems a little overwhelming with my current work load. Praying that things continue to go well for you. I admire you so much!
Yeah! Good for you all. :^)
Love your blog. Being a stay at home Christian mother of 4, I can so relate. We need each other. My kids and I actually wrote a small, easy kids/family devotional to pray and honor the Lord at night. We are just wrapping up our 4th...We are all so blessed with our families, even when we are overwhelmed.
